Ready Seal® Information
At PhDecks, we use Ready Seal® wood stain and sealant. This is a semi-transparent penetrant stain, meaning that it soaks into the wood instead of sitting as a layer on top of it. The seal/stain process will protect your wood from the elements as well as UV Rays. The darker the color stain, the more UV protection! To see the different colors, use the slideshow to the right. At the end of it, you will see each color and name. For any further information, please see the Ready Seal® website at www.readyseal.com

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my wood look fuzzy?
After being pressure washed, wood decks may get a fuzzy appearance. This is a result of the irritation from the pressure. It is completely normal and does not harm the wood, nor will it interfere with the staining process. Typically, the more neglected the wood is, the more fuzzy it will be after cleaning. Within 4-6 weeks, the wind will blow away all of the fuzz. In severe situations, some light sanding on the horizontal surfaces may be required.
What if I have treated wood?
While treated wood does not hinder our ability to clean and stain your deck, it may cause the stain color of your choice to have a little different hue.
What if I have wood other than cedar, such as exotic hardwood?
PhDecks is able to work on almost all woods, whether it be a soft wood such as pine, or any type of hardwood. If a customer has an exotic hardwood such as Ipe, Tigerwood or Garapa, we will inspect it during the quote. If we feel the deck can be safely cleaned and stained without causing any issues, we will happily provide that service.
How long until I can use my deck after it is stained?
In most cases, we recommend that our customers wait 36 hours before allowing any foot traffic on their decks. Furthermore, we recommend that our customers refrain from putting furniture on their decks until it has been 48 hours since we finished the staining. This is because furniture can cause scratches to the deck that foot traffic ordinarily would not.
My deck looks lighter (or darker) than I thought it would after staining. Why is this?
Different factors play into the eventual color of your deck after staining. When showcasing the colors, stain companies use their product on brand new wood. This can be a little deceiving for customers who have decks that are 10 or 20 years old. A general rule of thumb is that the older the deck, the darker the stain will look. We always try to inform the customer of this before they choose their colors, so that they may choose a lighter color to even out the natural darkening of the wood. If a customer chooses to do this, and the color turns out to be too light, we can stain over it with a darker color.
Can I request a different stain product?
We will always try to help customers get exactly what they want. If a customer wants a different type of stain, we are happy to try to use it. Keep in mind, however, that we are experts in Ready Seal® and truly believe it is the best choice for your wood.

"Our redwood deck was painted when we bought our house 6 years ago. Paint was peeled, chipped, and scratched up over time and because of our dogs :( Mike assured us that this was not so far gone. They sanded, powerwashed, and stained it with such a beautiful natural color that we actually were convinced that they replaced the whole thing! These guys are pros!"
Sandy A. -Golden Valley, MN
